Cookies

No analytics or advertising cookie is set — not even by Google Analytics 4, which is already active but runs without cookies. There is nothing here to consent to and no banner: every storage signal is denied by default for every visitor, and that denial is never lifted.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device (computer, smartphone or tablet) when you visit. They serve to remember your settings, to analyse how the site is used, or to improve your experience. Besides cookies, a website may use other browser storage techniques — such as local storage (localStorage) — which serve a similar purpose but are technically not cookies. Cookies cannot access other data on your device and, on their own, contain no information that directly identifies you as a person.

The current state of cookies

This website already measures traffic. Even so, no analytics and no advertising cookies are set — none at all. Google Analytics 4 is already active on every page — it runs under Google Consent Mode v2: every storage signal, including the ones analytics would use, starts denied by default for every visitor, in every country, and this site carries no banner able to grant them. There is, for that reason, nothing to consent to. Advertising remains unintegrated — set out under Google Analytics 4 and advertising below.

In short: on an ordinary visit this website sets no cookies for analytics or advertising. Google Analytics 4 is already active, but it runs without cookies, because the default denial is never lifted — there is no consent control here to reopen. Should advertising ever be switched on, every cookie it sets will be named here before it goes live.

One exception, named here rather than passed over in silence: the gr_int flag, our own exclusion for internal visits, so that our test traffic does not end up in the figures. It is written only when you deliberately open a page with ?internal=1 appended — as a cookie with a lifetime of one year, and additionally in local storage — and the measurement code reads it on every page view. On an ordinary visit nothing is written, and nothing on this site links to it. It holds a single flag and nothing about you; you delete it by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

Technically necessary storage

So that the site can respect a choice you make, a small amount of information may be stored in your browser’s local storage. It is technically necessary, serves only to make the site work, and is stored regardless of any consent. This is local storage (localStorage), and so technically not a cookie:

  • Your language-suggestion choice — when the site notices your browser prefers another available language and you dismiss that suggestion, this remembers your choice so the suggestion does not reappear on every page.

This entry remains until you clear your browser’s storage. It contains no name, no email address and no identifier that could be used to build a user profile.

Google Analytics 4 and advertising

Google Analytics 4 is already integrated and active on every page of this website. It has still set no cookie: it runs without cookies, because this site’s consent defaults deny every storage signal — including the ones analytics would use — for every visitor, wherever you visit from, and this site carries no banner able to grant them. There is, for that reason, no consent control to describe here: that is not an oversight, it is what the code does.

Advertising — for example through the Google AdSense network — remains unintegrated. Should it ever be added, every cookie it sets will be named here, with its provider, purpose and storage duration, and how to give, manage or withdraw consent will be described on this page before it goes live, not after.

Third-party cookies

Google Analytics 4, already active on this site, is served by Google LLC (USA), which is subject to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, through which the European Commission has found an adequate level of data protection for certified companies. It sets no cookie — it runs without cookies — but it remains a data flow to a third party: on every page view, Google receives the page address, the referrer, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device type, and may process that data outside Portugal. The Google AdSense advertising network remains unintegrated; should it ever be added, it would set its own third-party cookies, and this page would be updated first. How Google uses data and how you set or switch off personalised advertising can be found at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and adssettings.google.com.

How to manage cookies in your browser

There is no consent control to speak of: Google Analytics 4, already active on every page, runs without one, because every storage signal stays denied by default and nothing on this site ever grants it. Independently of that, you can delete cookies at any time through your browser settings, or block them from being set in the first place:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies

Deleting cookies does not impair your use of this website.

Relationship to data protection

This cookie policy supplements our privacy policy, which describes what data we process, how, and what rights you have. This website requires no sign-up or account, and the figures you enter into the calculator never leave your browser; Google Analytics 4 is nonetheless active on every page, without setting cookies, and Google receives what we describe above.
