What BrutoLíquido is
BrutoLíquido is a net-pay calculator for Portugal. It is for people already working here, and for those weighing up a move — so that, before you sign a contract or pack your bags, you can see how much of a gross salary actually lands in your account. You enter the monthly gross, your household situation and the number of dependents, and the tool shows the take-home net, the social-security deduction, the IRS withheld at source, and the total cost to your employer.
The calculation starts from the gross and subtracts what is genuinely subtracted in Portugal: the employee’s social-security contribution, and the IRS withheld at source. It models the ordinary monthly salary on the Mainland, which is what most people want when they ask “how much will I actually take home?”.
What it computes — and what it does not
The tool computes the monthly withholding, the tax that comes off each payslip, using the official Mainland tables. It does not compute the annual IRS settlement, which reconciles the year’s tax the following year and may refund or charge the difference — that is a separate calculation, described on the income-tax page.
Some things are deliberately out of this first version, and we name them rather than hide them: the Madeira and Azores regional tables; the specific withholding tables for people with a disability; the uplift for supplementary work; and IRS Jovem, the youth exemption, which is offered here as an explainer only and is not applied by the calculator because it depends on eligibility the tool cannot check. The fourteen-payment structure does not change the monthly net, so it is explained rather than folded into the headline figure.
Where the numbers come from
The rules behind the calculator are drawn from primary Portuguese sources: the annual withholding decree (Despacho n.º 233-A/2026) for the IRS tables; the Contributory Code for the social-security rates; and the decree that sets the 2026 minimum wage. The aim is that every rate and amount traces back to an official document, with the date it was last checked.
One rule sits above the rest: no number here is invented. A model never decides on its own that a rate is correct. What we could not confirm against a primary source, we mark as unverified or leave out entirely — we would rather say less than state something that does not hold up.
The figures shown here follow the official sources cited on each page. They are not official rate tables: if a rule changed recently it may not be reflected here yet, and none of them has been through our final sign-off — for a real decision, the cited source or the responsible authority governs. The research behind this site was gathered: agosto 2026.

The results are for information. BrutoLíquido does not replace an accountant, a tax adviser or the Autoridade Tributária — for a binding calculation, turn to those. There is no sign-up or account, and the calculator never sends what you enter anywhere.
